Akanni Hislop was golden in the boys' under-20 200 metres event, on the third and final day of the 45th Carifta Games, at the National Athletics Stadium here in St George's, Grenada, this evening. The Trinidad and Tobago athlete won the final in a wind-assisted 20.89 seconds, forcing Bahamian Keanu Pennerman (21.03) and Antiguan Coull Graham (21.05) to settle for silver and bronze, respectively.

THE INTERNATIONAL Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) have certified the Tobago marathon course for the first ever International Sea to Sea Marathon scheduled for May 21- 22. “This event is designed to be a platform to showcase Tobago and draw high value visitors to the island.” explained Garth Alleyne, director of Strategic Relations for Sea to Sea Events Ltd. “The Marathon will draw runners and visitors from around the world for a full weekend of activities with 5K and 10K races on May 21 and half and full marathons on May 22.”

Triple Olympic silver medallist Richard Thompson and National sprint queen Kelly-Ann Baptiste opened their 2016 season with second place finishes at the LSU Performance Meet in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Saturday. Thompson was second in the men’s 60m dash in 6.74 seconds. The national 100m record holder was beaten to the line by Gabriel Mvumvure of Zimbabwe (6.69) with another local sprinter Shermund Allsop in sixth (6.89).
